Shakyamuni Buddha in Colorado, Giclée of an original painting, Buddha, Buddha at Shoshoni Retreat Buddhist Art Buddha

$12.00

Giclée of Buddha Shakyamuni in a Colorado setting with a moose and meditation temple.

Shakyamuni Buddha is the historical Buddha. He is shown with his right hand extending downward in the “calling the earth to witness” mudra. At the time of his enlightenment he is said to have touched his hand to the ground and called the earth to witness.

Shakyamuni wears Nirmanakaya robes- without adornment. These are the robes still worn by Tibetan Buddhist monks today. He holds a begging bowl taking what is offered. He taught the middle way between indulgence and renunciation. His philosophy is the path of loving-kindness.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Faith Stone is co-founder and director of Shoshoni Yoga Retreat and Eldorado Yoga Ashram in Colorado, and Konalani Yoga Ashram in Hawaii. She has been drawing, carving, painting, and teaching Contemporary Buddhist art for over 25 years in both public schools and at the ashrams. Faith approaches carving and painting Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as a meditative sadhana with the idea that once complete, the artwork no longer belongs to the artist, it belongs to the deity. Faith's many roles as manager, artist, author, book-keeper, cook, teacher and mom serve as an inspiration for many as her work spreads across the world.

I bought this as a gift for my Daughter to enjoy and display in her college dorm room. We love the artist, and the calming presence of the piece. The scene reminds us of a visit to Shoshoni Yoga Retreat in Colorado. Arrived on time in perfect condition.
