Flower Tara by Karma Phuntsok, Shakyamuni Buddha, Thangka Art, Buddhist Art, White Tara flowers, Buddhist art, Tibetan Art, Tibetan artist

$18.00

White Tara, also known as Arya Tara, is an important figure in Buddhism. She is known as the “Mother of Liberation,” or the enlightened wisdom of the Buddhas. She is invoked for long-life and for cultivating kindness. Tara is the protective, helpful, and comforting mother who shows limitless kindness, generosity, and protection towards those who are suffering in the ocean of samsara. Her practice is a means for attaining liberation.

Karma uses soft muted tones in the background creating the appearance of a misty forest with white cosmos flowers stretching skyward and reaching towards her. The painting evokes a tranquil feeling of being with the goddess in a forest after it has rained. She is exquisitely painted with great care and attention to detail. Her face is gentle and kind and her countenance envelops the viewer in a quiet comfort.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Karma Phuntsok is a pioneer of Tibetan contemporary art and one of the few Tibetan artists who directly experienced the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959. After escaping to India, Karma studied traditional Tibetan thangka painting for several years. In the 1970's, he began to explore new techniques and materials, interweaving modern with traditional symbols. Karma's paintings are now held in public and private collections around the world. As one of today's most influential artists, Karma has also paved the way for others, both Tibetan and non-Tibetan, seeking new ways to combine traditional Tibetan iconography with contemporary work.

The central figure of white Tara is so colorful. What is unexpected is the clear color that looks muted online but is clear and lovely in the background in person.
