Medicine Buddha in Sublime Space by Karma Phuntsok, Healing Buddha, Thangka Art, Contemporary Tibetan Art, Buddha Painting

$18.00

Medicine Buddha is invoked for healing physical, mental, and emotional ailments. He is described as the doctor who cures dukkha, suffering. The Medicine Buddha mantra is held to be extremely powerful for healing and for the purification of negative karma. Medicine Buddha is depicted as having dark blue (lapis lazuli) colored body, this being an archetypal color of healing. With his left hand he holds a bowl of healing nectar, and with his right hand a medicine plant.

This Medicine Buddha by Karma Phuntosk has an ethereal feeling with bright swirling colors. Karma often like's to finger paint the background in a free and expressive way before adding the central figure to the painting.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Karma Phuntsok is a pioneer of Tibetan contemporary art and one of the few Tibetan artists who directly experienced the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959. After escaping to India, Karma studied traditional Tibetan thangka painting for several years. In the 1970's, he began to explore new techniques and materials, interweaving modern with traditional symbols. Karma's paintings are now held in public and private collections around the world. As one of today's most influential artists, Karma has also paved the way for others, both Tibetan and non-Tibetan, seeking new ways to combine traditional Tibetan iconography with contemporary work.
